BNI Tech Talks: Leadership Team Hub Follow-Up and FAQs
Session date: October 23, 2026
Presenter: Jeremy Walsh, BNI Director of Support
Quick Summary
This BNI Tech Talk follows up on the Leadership Team Hub introduction with answers to common questions about Chapter Success Meeting reports. Jeremy explains when BNI Connect data is captured, why chapters should create reports at the start of their meetings, how monthly reporting and carry-forward information work, and what happens to access when leadership roles change. The session also confirms the extended six-hour session timeout, clarifies who can see sensitive information in a report, and demonstrates where to find saved reports, update chapter goals, and access the separate complaints checklist. Live Q&A covers additional BNI Connect functions and concludes with a BNI+ demonstration showing how to display individual Membership Committee roles on a leadership introduction slide.

Complete Session Summary
This recap reflects the features and guidance discussed during the October 23, 2026 session, including follow-up answers to questions raised in the introductory webinar.
1. The Form Is Already Built—Chapters Create Meeting Reports
The Chapter Success Meeting form is a universal, ready-to-use structure. Directors do not need to build a template or prepare forms for their chapters. The chapter uses the existing form to create a report of its leadership team meeting.
Open MyBNI, select Leadership Team Hub, open Chapter Success Meeting, and use the plus / New Form option to begin a report.
The President, Vice President, and Executive Director are the roles able to create a meeting report. The Secretary Treasurer cannot create one. Although Executive Directors have management access, the normal workflow is for the chapter leadership team to create and complete its report, with directors reviewing the results and following up with the team.
2. Data Is Captured When the Report Is Created
Clicking the plus button triggers the data capture. The hub retrieves the available information from BNI Connect at that time. It does not continually synchronize the contents of an existing meeting report.
Once the report has been created and saved, its imported figures remain a snapshot—even if the report is still a draft. Later changes in BNI Connect do not automatically refresh those figures.
Create the report when the team sits down for its meeting, after bringing BNI Connect records up to date. Creating reports days or weeks in advance can leave the team reviewing old information.
3. Where the Report Information Comes From
| Information | Source explained in the session |
|---|---|
| Chapter goals | Chapter goals entered in BNI Connect. |
| Performance results | PALMS, with membership results drawn from membership records and the current roster. |
| Secretary Treasurer’s previous balance | The current balance recorded in the last submitted meeting report. Chapter finances are not maintained in BNI Connect. |
| Visitor information | Visitors marked as having attended the chapter. The session confirmed that the form did not distinguish visitor types such as visiting members, guests, or directors. |
| New members, dropped members, and net growth | Membership Dues Report information in BNI Connect. |
| Quality Assurance section | Jeremy clarified that this section does not automatically pull reports from BNI Connect. |
| Passport to Success participants | Members who joined in the last three months, drawn from membership records. |
| Seven-month review follow-up | Reviewer and comments carried forward from the last submitted form. |
Before creating a report, update chapter goals, submit PALMS, mark visitor attendance, and make sure new-member applications and dropped-member requests have been processed by the regional office. Imported visitor and membership lists must be corrected at their source in BNI Connect.
4. Entering and Correcting Chapter Goals
In BNI Connect, go to Operations > Chapter > Manage Goals > Enter Chapter Goals. Check the reporting period carefully: the demonstration defaulted to the next six-month period. Select the current month when working on the current period, then select Go.
Goals can be edited and submitted again; they are not permanently locked after entry. The goals form also provides a choice of monthly or per-member entry. Check that selection before entering figures.
Missing or zero goals in the meeting report should prompt a review of the goals in BNI Connect. Make corrections before creating the meeting report, because an existing draft does not automatically refresh.
5. Submit One Official Report per Month
The recommended Chapter Success Meeting frequency is monthly, with consistent timing to support useful comparisons. Teams may meet more often, particularly in larger chapters, but the guidance was to submit one official Chapter Success Meeting report per month.
A skipped month does not have to be backfilled, although a report for a skipped month can be entered if desired. Information carried forward comes from the last submitted report; drafts and skipped months do not provide a new submitted record.
If you cannot create the next report, check for open drafts from previous months and complete and submit them first.
6. The Session Timeout Was Extended to Six Hours
Jeremy announced that an update released on the day of the webinar extended the Leadership Team Hub session timeout from one hour to six hours.
The form still does not automatically save as you type. Save drafts during the meeting and before leaving the page, closing your laptop, or returning to the report later. Browser refreshes, connection interruptions, and other session changes can still interrupt unsaved work.
7. Finding Reports and Understanding Historical Access
Return to the Chapter Success Meeting forms list to find saved and submitted reports for your own chapter or chapters within your assigned scope. The Vice President demonstration showed a much smaller list than a regional or national user would see.
Submitted reports are locked for normal editing and deletion. Use the available viewing and printing options to review them; contact support if a submitted report needs correction or deletion.
At the time of the session, there was no archive routine or fixed retention cutoff for these forms. Historical reports remained stored, but a person’s ability to read them depended on their current access:
- Leaving an eligible leadership role can remove access to the Leadership Team Hub, even for reports you previously submitted.
- Directors can review the chapters they currently support until their role or chapter assignment changes.
- A future eligible leadership team or assigned director can review the chapter’s historical reports.
8. All Report Sections Are Visible to People with Access
The report does not restrict individual sections by role. Anyone authorized to view a report can read its contents, including the Member Relations section. Meeting instructions asking certain attendees to leave a discussion do not create separate viewing permissions in the saved report.
Keep notes meaningful and concise, and avoid placing unnecessary sensitive complaint details in the shared report. Remember that both current and future authorized leaders may read it.
The complaints checklist linked in the Member Relations Specialist section is a separate, stand-alone form. It can be printed, completed, and provided to the region. It is not saved as part of the Leadership Team Hub report.
Leadership Team Hub Questions and Answers
Why does someone with several leadership roles appear only once in attendance?
The attendee list is deduplicated. A person with several roles appears once, rather than once for every position.
How soon can a replacement President or Vice President access the hub?
Update the role in BNI Connect first. Jeremy estimated that permissions generally catch up within one to three hours, while noting that it could take until the next day in some cases. This was an estimate, not a guaranteed timing commitment.
Can the Secretary Treasurer create the report?
No. The session confirmed that creation is limited to the President, Vice President, and Executive Director.
Can leadership team members check their own permissions grid?
There is no self-service permissions-grid view for chapter leadership team members. Ask your regional team or submit a support ticket to check access.
Where is the complaint form?
Open a Chapter Success Meeting form, expand the Member Relations Specialist section at the bottom, and follow the complaints-checklist link.
What if role responsibilities or training materials appear inconsistent?
Ask your Executive Director to raise the question with the Global Training Team. Jeremy distinguished technical support from interpreting the responsibilities of individual chapter roles.
Where should leadership or director concerns be raised?
Questions involving a chapter consultant’s decisions should go to the Executive Director or Managing Director. Concerns involving the Executive Director can be raised with the national office.
Additional BNI Connect Questions and Demonstrations
- Email the chapter: Use Operations > Chapter > Create Email > Email My Chapter to obtain a semicolon-separated list of email addresses. This does not pair each address with a member’s name. Jeremy noted that reports combining those details are available to certain higher-level roles, rather than through the chapter-level options demonstrated.
- Cross-chapter one-to-ones: Use Search Cross Chapter on the web or tap the magnifying glass itself in the app. Enter minimal search information; unnecessary company text or punctuation differences can prevent matches. Similar searching is available for referrals and TYFCB.
- Entering CEUs in the app: The number selector works as a scrolling wheel. Press and flick it to change the value.
- CEU relevance: Jeremy described CEUs as self-managed and relevant to networking, BNI, or business development. Profession-specific continuing education does not automatically qualify simply because it is training.
- Cross-chapter testimonials: First send a connection request and become connected to the member. Once connected, you can provide a testimonial regardless of chapter or country.
- Visitors who were not preregistered: An authorized Visitor Host, Secretary Treasurer, or Vice President can use the chapter’s visitor-management functions after the meeting to record the visitor.
- Visitor registration limits: An automatic maximum-attendance cutoff was not available at the time of the session.
- Event registration in the app: A reported Register-button issue had been raised with developers. Users experiencing it were asked to send a support ticket with screenshots or a video.
- Missing profile-completion indicator: Jeremy expected it to be visible for everyone and requested more information if it was missing, rather than confirming a known cause.
- Privacy and GDPR questions: Jeremy did not give a legal determination about distributing visitor contact lists. He directed the question to the Executive Director, who could consult headquarters’ legal team as needed.
Power Teams and Director Visit Reports
A Power Team was described as a smaller group of complementary professions with natural referral opportunities—for example, an IT consultant, copier provider, internet provider, website designer, and related specialists.
The Leadership Team Hub did not include a Power Team meeting form. Jeremy suggested checking BNI Academy resources for guidance and noted the topic as a possible future webinar.
For directors whose region uses the feature, BNI Connect provides Operations > Region > Chapter Visits > Record a Chapter Visit. The demonstration described a simple record containing the chapter, visit date, visitor, a one-to-five rating, and comments.
Finding Training and Your Previous Support Requests
In BNI Connect, click the question mark in the lower-left corner to open BNI Support. The BNI+ section contains onboarding videos, Tech Talk recordings, and help articles.
To revisit an earlier support answer, sign in to the support site, click your name, and select Requests. This lets you review requests associated with your account, including requests you submitted and those on which you were copied.
BNI+ is accessed through MyBNI. If access has not been activated, contact your Executive Director; regional and national teams coordinate rollout. The BNI Tech Summit discussed in the Q&A is an internal staff event, not a public training session.
Bonus Demonstration: Showing Membership Committee Roles in BNI+
Having the roles assigned in BNI Connect does not mean a leadership slide automatically includes a field for every role. A slide showing only the general Membership Committee field may need additional role fields added.
- Open the chapter’s BNI+ agenda and locate the leadership or Membership Committee introduction slide.
- If it is a regional slide, ask the regional team to update it for the region.
- For a chapter-specific version, make a copy of the slide and rename it before editing.
- Edit the relevant text and add the appropriate @ role fields for Membership Committee Community Builder, Member Engagement, Member Relations, and Quality Assurance.
- Preview the slide to check that the people assigned to those roles appear.
As an alternative, create a separate slide with individual role fields and labels for each position.
Key Takeaways
- Create the report at the meeting, after updating BNI Connect.
- Imported data is a snapshot; saving a draft does not keep its numbers synchronized.
- Use one official report per month and complete earlier drafts so information carries forward correctly.
- The timeout was extended to six hours, but saving remains a manual action.
- Everyone with access to a report can read all its sections, including future authorized leaders.
- Historical storage and personal access are different: reports remain available only while your role permits you to view them.
