Quick Summary
This BNI Tech Talks session introduces BNI+ as BNI's visual meeting delivery system and demonstrates how it helps chapters deliver a consistent, branded meeting in person, online, or in a hybrid format. Jeremy Walsh explains what BNI+ is - and why it is more than an online PowerPoint - before showing how chapter, member, visitor, leadership, and PALMS information synchronizes from BNI Connect; how members and leadership teams access the system through MyBNI; and how the Presentation Screen and Meeting Controller work together. The live walkthrough covers automated scripts, timers, member and visitor slides, chapter statistics, featured-speaker presentations, mobile slide control, and downloadable HTML or PDF backups for offline delivery. The Q&A also addresses rollout availability, permissions, regional and chapter slide control, presentation formats, video links, hybrid meetings, and common operating limitations.
Comprehensive Summary
Session purpose and context
This session begins a deeper BNI Tech Talks sequence about BNI+. Jeremy Walsh positions the first week as a 101-level orientation for members, chapter leaders, and regional staff who may have heard of the system but have not yet seen a meeting delivered through it. BNI+ is described as BNI's visual meeting delivery system: a browser-based tool for presenting the BNI agenda, scripts, member information, timers, reports, and presentations during in-person, online, or hybrid chapter meetings. It was initially developed in Canada, expanded through Canadian chapters, and was later incorporated into BNI's wider technology suite. The product continues to evolve, and both features and country availability may change as rollout and localization work continue.
More than an online PowerPoint
A major theme is that BNI+ should not be evaluated as though it were simply PowerPoint in a web browser. It does not reproduce every PowerPoint animation, transition, or visual effect. Its value is operational: it helps a national or regional organization provide chapters with a consistent, current, branded meeting experience without distributing large presentation files that every chapter must download and manually customize. Regional content can be maintained centrally, chapter content can be managed locally, and several people can share responsibility for the meeting rather than relying on one person to maintain an increasingly large deck.
Rollout, meeting types, and synchronization
The opening pop quiz establishes several fundamentals. At the time of the session, BNI+ had been used in a growing group of countries, although appearing in a country did not necessarily mean that it was fully available to every region or chapter there. Country teams must complete translation, slide configuration, and other implementation work before launch. BNI+ can support in-person meetings using a television or projector, online meetings through a platform such as Zoom, and hybrid meetings. BNI Connect remains the master source for synchronized data. Changes are processed on a recurring schedule and can take approximately one to three hours to appear, depending on the amount of data being processed.
What comes from BNI Connect
The session reviews the information that is synchronized into BNI+: chapter structure and properties, rosters, leadership and other positions, member contact and company information, profile photographs, logos, websites, visitor registrations, and PALMS data used for meeting performance slides. This reduces duplicate entry and means that updates should generally be made in BNI Connect rather than directly in BNI+. Some items remain local to BNI+, including a member's weekly ask, optional email subscriptions, a regional tagline when permitted, and uploaded speaker presentations. Jeremy also notes that additional items, including attendance, renewal reminders, and speaker rotation, were discussed as future synchronization opportunities rather than current features at the time of the recording.
Member and leadership access
Members are encouraged to enter through MyBNI. If the BNI+ tile is not visible, the system may not yet be available in that country or region, and the member should ask the Executive Director about the rollout plan. A standard member sees a limited profile area because most profile fields are managed in BNI Connect. Members can manage certain BNI+ email subscriptions, enter a weekly ask, add a tagline where the region permits it, and upload a presentation when scheduled as the featured speaker. The President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer receive broad chapter-level access by default. Additional helpers can be granted access, while regional roles receive either region-wide visibility or visibility limited to their assigned chapters, depending on their BNI Connect role and chapter assignments.
How a meeting is delivered
The live demonstration shows the two key meeting-delivery views. The Presentation Screen is the full-screen visual output displayed to attendees. The Meeting Controller is used by the President, Vice President, or another authorized person to choose slides, preview upcoming content, read the meeting script, and manage the flow. The controller can run on another monitor, on a mobile device, or under a different authorized user's account. This separation lets the operator see instructions and controls that are not visible to the audience. It also allows different presenters to control their own content when appropriate.
Automated content throughout the agenda
During the walkthrough, BNI+ moves through open-networking slides, purpose and overview, the networking education moment, new and renewing member recognition, weekly member presentations, Vice President and committee reports, featured speakers, referrals and testimonials, visitor recognition, announcements, and closing slides. The system can populate leadership and membership information, scripts, profile images, visitor slides, and performance data from synchronized sources. Timers help presenters and leadership keep each section on schedule. Weekly presentations can run alphabetically, in a randomized order, or by configured Power Teams. Featured speakers can upload their slides in advance and may be allowed to advance them from a phone, while the meeting operator retains the ability to control the presentation when needed.
Offline backup and presentation limitations
A newly demonstrated offline-meeting option allows an authorized user to generate and download the current meeting as either a PDF or HTML package. The PDF is a flat presentation, while the HTML version provides more controller-like behavior, including some timing and navigation. Neither offline format is the fully editable online system, so attendance and other meeting data cannot be changed in the same way. Jeremy recommends generating a backup before the meeting so the chapter can continue if the Internet connection fails. Uploaded PowerPoint, Keynote, or PDF files may be converted into a flatter presentation format, so sophisticated animations and reveals may be lost. Presenters with an advanced animated deck may still present outside BNI+ when necessary.
Key Q&A guidance
The Q&A clarifies that BNI+ does not replace Zoom or another meeting platform; it replaces the visual meeting deck and adds meeting-control functions. Videos are linked rather than hosted in BNI+, so successful playback still depends on the venue's Internet connection and the availability of the external link. Hybrid chapters may need to adjust which slides are enabled for online and in-person weeks because a one-click hybrid-mode toggle was not yet available. Changes made while a presentation is already running require the presentation to be reloaded, which supports caching and delivery stability. The session closes by previewing the next lesson on agenda, scripts, and slides, including how chapters and regions move, enable, disable, copy, and update meeting content.
