Jeremy welcomed participants to the BNI Tech Talks webinar, introducing himself as the director of support for BNI platforms and sharing his extensive experience with BNI. He highlighted the global participation from various countries and explained the purpose of the webinar series, which supports BNI Connect, BNI Plus, BNI Insights, BNI Academy, MyBNI.com, and other platforms. Jeremy emphasized the importance of core values, mentioned the team supporting over 600,000 members and users across 75 countries, and encouraged participants to use the chat window for networking and to ask questions in the Q&A panel.
BNI Connect Platform Updates
Jeremy presented updates and bug fixes for BNI Connect, including the addition of a new specialty field for members to further define their expertise. He highlighted that the platform now allows for unlimited specialties, with 100 new classifications added. Jeremy also mentioned improvements to member profiles, such as displaying member tenure and fixing issues with logo uploads and event registration on the mobile app.
BNI Profile Update Changes
Jeremy discussed two major changes to BNI profiles: the addition of tenure information, which shows members' most recent membership length and cannot be edited, and updates to professional details including industry classification and specialty fields. He explained that while members can currently update their specialty through the full website, this functionality will be coming to the mobile app in the next version. Jeremy also noted that profile updates must be made in the modern view, not the legacy view, and clarified that the term "requested specialty" needs to be updated in translations.
BNI Connect Specialties Update
Jeremy discussed the importance of updating specialties in BNI Connect to better define members' focuses within broader classifications. He explained that while the process is currently self-managed, an update is planned to notify the membership committee when specialties are updated. Jeremy also highlighted that updated specialties will appear on regional websites and in various reports within BNI Connect. Additionally, he mentioned that members can now register for pay-at-venue events directly through the mobile app.
BNI Connect Platform Updates
Jeremy demonstrated new features in BNI Connect, including the ability to leave the specialty field blank on profiles, which displays as blank. He highlighted significant improvements in BNI+ for directors, such as increased bandwidth stability, a filter bar, and the ability to switch between organizations without repeated logins. Jeremy also mentioned the addition of BNI Plus icons on MyBNI.com, though these are not yet available in the United States.
BNI Connect Membership Roles Update
Jeremy announced the addition of four new positions in BNI Connect for membership committee roles: community builder, quality assurance, member engagement, and member relations. He demonstrated how to update these roles in the roster report and sync them with BNI+. Jeremy also explained that a new template with these positions has been created, and regional leaders like Kevin McDonald can update slides at their level to reflect the new roles.
BNI Academy System Updates
Jeremy discussed updates to BNI Academy, including the fixing of synchronization issues affecting directors and the ongoing resolution of member synchronization problems. He mentioned the addition of a new search feature for the mobile view, noting that while there is no mobile app, the platform is mobile-friendly. Jeremy also explained that the system is currently updating 1,000 accounts per hour, with the process expected to take 2-3 days to complete.
BNI Academy Platform Updates
Jeremy discussed updates to the BNI Academy platform, including the addition of a search button and improved search functionality. He mentioned that the platform is now significantly faster due to increased bandwidth and resources. Jeremy also explained where to find recordings of Tech Talks and webinars, directing participants to the BNI Connect support site. He introduced new infographics created using ChatGPT, which will be added to the support site in the coming days.
BNI Connect System Features Overview
Jeremy led a Tech Talks session covering various BNI Connect and BNI Plus system features and troubleshooting. He explained how national office staff can access classification reports and manage professions, and clarified that membership does not need to approve new specialties. Several technical issues were discussed, including a sync problem affecting login access, and Jeremy requested participants to submit support tickets with detailed screenshots or videos to help resolve these issues. He also announced that next week's Tech Talks will focus on the mobile app, and encouraged participants to share the registration link with others to help reach the 1000-user limit for the live call.
