Traffic Lights are Great - but we are not using them to their best ability
The Traffic Lights reports have been a great boost to member performance. I love them as a tool for change. They have done an excellent job in refocussing members on inputs (the 5 KPIs) but….
I was thinking about the traffic lights reports when we got ours issued today and I have a suggestion to take them (and BNI chapters) to the next level.
At the moment, everyone, and every chapter’s goal is to get to members to 100 points. 100 points is the maximum you can obtain under the Traffic Lights system.
The problem with this is: 100 points is actually the MINIMUM acceptable standard IF a member is meeting all 5 BNI-set KPIs.
So the Minimum KPIs are actually set as the Maximum KPIs …. Not too many businesses would have that as a goal 😊
So, a better solution is needed – if BNI wants to re-calibrate what is seen as ‘being successful’ within BNI – and generate a change in mindset.
Suggestion:
Leave the current Traffic Light system ‘as is’ but add a tweak: have Green as the Minimum Acceptable Standard (MAS), with Yellow, Red and Grey as stepping stones to the MAS.
I would then ADD 4 levels ABOVE Green for those who are achieving more than the MAS:
Bronze - B
Silver - S
Gold - G
Platinum - P
Without being too prescriptive, but as an example, I would make Platinum for those members who are above, say, 200 points AND doing a level of TYFCB in the top quartile for their chapter (every chapter is different so it should not be a $ amount).
Then, B, S & G would fit say at 125 points, 150 points and 175 points with a TYFCB goal (say top 2 quartiles).

@michael - thank you for this incredible level of detail. I will forward this to the reports team for future discussion and consideration. We will add your request as a "vote" for prioritization. Hope this helps and have a great week!

Thanks Jeremy - I think this has the potential to supercharge chapter performance and foster greater engagement.
