Makes sense - can we see some action please?

I'm new to bni and I cannot believe that a public API is not available. With one of the main principles about giving to fellow members, for the people who have high volumes of transactions the amount of time wasted having to input each one in individually is ridiculous. TIME TO GET THIS SORTED!!

Yeah we need to keep up with this software so strongly agree on the need for this API

This API is needed and soon.

Givers Gain - if you can provide us a seamless API to easily upload referrals then you gain by more accurate logging of business

Carl/Ellen/Claire - just a clarification - are you commenting on the automated TYFCB aspect of this suggestion or an API?  An API is more of a development level tool that has much deeper implications as opposed to the TYFCB automation which is more feasible in the shorter term.

    Thanks in advance!

Jeremy - I'd argue that automated TYFTB is actually harder because you need to integrate with members systems (which could be different platforms e.g. Xero, Quickbooks, FreeAgent, Excel or a custom CRM) and know how to determine what data to extract and how it relates to a member.

By providing us with an API it allows talented developers within chapters to help their members out by writing bespoke integration software that can connect to the appropriate systems. The BNI team don't have to worry about supporting multiple different systems, just providing the api to allow us to do that.

This next bit is where non developers tune out....

The really stupid thing is that the current system ALREADY is using an API.  The webpages make REST JSON calls passing the browsers current session cookies. You've just not provided open documentation and it would require us to visit the login page, login and then save the cookies for the code to use. The downside is we have to save username/password or manually login each time to grab a cookie and we have no guarantee that you won't change the API behaviour.

All we need is for you to provide an OAUTH2 endpoint allowing code to fetch a bearer token that the API could use and to publish documentation on the API and not make breaking changes.  You could even use Auth0 to do your heavy lifting on the authentication front.

Our software God has suggested that by providing him with an API it would allow him to write bespoke integration software that can connect to the appropriate systems. The BNI team don't have to worry about supporting multiple different systems, just providing the api to allow us to do that. Its mainly for the automation of TYFTB

Robert and Carl - you are correct in that we have an internal API that is in use for our systems to communicate between platforms, such as the mobile app, web platform, and main database.  For what it's worth, we have a very talented team of in house developers, however, developing, documenting, and securing a PUBLIC FACING API is a very resource intensive initiative, especially in the era of global privacy standards such as GDPR.

While we couldn't do a connected open source TYFCB automation at this time, one thing that is being considered - that is technically much easier - is to do things like recurring TYFCB that would simplify at least a piece of the repetitive (and somewhat tedious) process of recording our numbers, especially for those of us that have things like support contracts that go on for many years.

We would like an api to extract a list of all of the contact details of the members of the chapter - we want to be able to automate the production of a trade sheet with the information from within BNI Connect.

Public API's can be easily documented with the likes of swagger and use the existing authentication you have in-built into the current applications (that are web/services based anyway)

That said, is there a way we can get a basic report of all members - name, number, email, weburl & bio what we can then export to to create a semi automated trade sheet.

Hey y’all. I, for sure, have person that can do this. Kevin Scott from Top Shelf Automation. Here’s his website: http://www.topshelfautomation.com/

Already working with a client already using Jarvis (the bot) to check her BNI Connect on a daily basis to pull any referrals she gets out of there and put them into her CRM so her engagement campaigns can begin.

An API to access reports in json format would be a BIG timesaver.

    Hi to all,

I read all the thread and BNI responses are in CONTRAST
with a BNI CORE VALUE =>  INNOVATION !!!

    It's possibile?
I'm 30 years in ICT and I support all of my colleagues that request the API with a big voice ... they, us, are in right.

It seems that BNI have no idea how to modify/integrate BNI CONNECT, that is an very-old-styrl non-human web site.

It's INCREDIBLE that in 2023 there are still "computer scientists" who say it's difficult to make an API ... my son wrote it's first at 22 ;)

Jeremy Walsh talk about the GDPR .... but he but maybe he forgets that all of OUR personal data are already public... to everyone: https://bni-italia.com/it/memberbni

Any idea on who is the CTO of BNI INTERNATIONAL?
we need to confront only with the BOSS, and maybe later with his/her boss!

We run our business on automation. No API is a hard pill to swallow.

Any update on it? Would be highly appreciated !

This started 5 years ago. It's time to bring this application up to date. If you need help getting this built out, we can do it for you. Let me know when we can get moving on this!

    Morning,
    I'm from Brazil

Does anyone know if the APIs to launch the information and consult it in BNI Connect have already been built?

Or does anyone know of any supplier outside of BNI that has built this?

    tks

Come it it's been 5 years. With an API, the community can improve BNI, it's a no-brainer.

    Olá a todos os membros!
    Eu sou do Brasil.

    Hello to all members!
    I'm from Brazil.
I'm also eagerly waiting for them to release the API for accessing Connect.
I started developing some automation with Excel.
Now look for the updated list of members of my group.
    And organizes members' weekly reports.
But it still depends on downloading the files.

Has anyone started any similar automation?

An API would really help a lot.

Is there any updates on the roadmap for when/if a REST API will be released at some point?`

  • 先生 林 東賢

Our chapter is already using external tools, and it would be even better if we could integrate BNI's REST API

  • Mr. Sid Sanghavi

@Jeremy, there are so many manual, arduous tasks that can be automated with APIs. It doesn't seem like this request has carried out a vote as I can't find any docs. Let me know if y'all have made an API or need help. If this is not going to be a priority for BNI, can you please update this post?

  • Mr. Steve Merager

This system is like the internet in the 90s. So much potential, and so many connection possibilities, and we're left with a single search field in the BNI system and no way to drill-down further. This ability to connect us is the singular most important service that BNI can provide and it's failing miserably here.
